Why an Independent Vehicle Appraiser Matters After an Accident

Whether after a traffic accident or other types of vehicle damage, a professional appraisal forms the basis for every claims settlement process.

An independent appraiser helps ensure that:

  • all damage is documented completely and in a legally sound manner
  • hidden damage is identified
  • repair costs are calculated correctly
  • loss of value and loss-of-use compensation are taken into account
  • no third-party financial interests influence the assessment

Insurance companies work with a strong focus on costs. As independent and certified appraisers, we work exclusively in your interest.

FAQs

The most common Questions about Vehicle Appraisals, Insurance, Claims, Vehicle Damage an Valuations

  • Who pays for the Vehicle Appraisal?

In the case of an accident where you are not at fault, the other party's liability insurance usually covers the costs of the expert report. Injured parties are generally free to choose their own expert.

  • Do I have to accept the Insurance Company’s Appraiser?

No. After an accident that was not their fault, injured parties have the right to commission their own independent expert. This expert works exclusively in the client's interest.

  • When is a Vehicle Appraisal recommended?

For larger damages amounting to approximately €750–1,000, a full expert report is generally recommended. It provides legally sound documentation of the damage and takes into account important factors such as diminished value and loss of use.

  • How quickly can a Vehicle be inspected?

A timely inspection helps to initiate the claims settlement process early. In many cases, a vehicle can be inspected at short notice.

  • What is diminished Value?

Even after a professional repair, a vehicle can lose market value due to accident damage. This so-called diminished value can be included in an expert appraisal.

  • What should I do after a Traffic Accident?

The first steps are to secure the accident scene, document the damage, and exchange all relevant information. Afterwards, it is advisable to commission an independent expert. More information can be found here: Accident Guide

  • How much does a Vehicle Appraisal cost?

In the case of an accident that is not the victim's fault, the injured party usually does not incur any costs for the expert report, as these are covered by the opposing insurance company.

  • Do you also inspect Motorhomes, Motorcycles or Agricultural Machinery?

Yes. In addition to classic cars, motorhomes, motorcycles, vintage cars, trucks and agricultural machinery are also inspected.

  • What happens in the Case of a total Loss?

In the event of a total loss, the expert report determines, among other things, the replacement value and the residual value of the vehicle. This creates a transparent basis for the settlement.

  • What does the "Quotenvorrecht" Principle mean?

Even in cases of partial fault, additional claims may still exist under certain conditions. The so-called Quotenvorrecht principle may help avoid financial disadvantages and allow additional claims to be asserted.

  • Can a Vehicle Valuation help document the actual Value of a Vehicle?

Yes. A valuation report provides a comprehensible documentation of a vehicle's technical and visual condition, creating a realistic basis for appraisal, sale, insurance, or long-term value retention. A professional valuation report can be particularly useful for well-maintained, rare, and high-end vehicles.

  • Does an independent Vehicle Valuation make sense even without Damage?

Yes. A neutral vehicle appraisal by automotive experts comprehensively documents the current condition and market value of the vehicle. This provides, for example, very good and lasting selling points before a sale.
